Cement production suspended at UltraTech’s Maha plant

Due to labourers’ strike UltraTech Cement, an Aditya Birla Group company, has suspended production at its Awarpur plant in Maharashtra because of a labour strike. The plant has a production capacity of 9,800 tonne a day. The development will, however, not impact the company’s financials significantly, a according to a company statement.

Being one of the leading cement manufacturers in the country, UltraTech has an installed capacity of 49 mt a year. It has 11 integrated plants in India, with one white cement plant. On February 27 Hindalco Industries, also an Aditya Birla company, announced a lock-out at its aluminium foil manufacturing plant at Silvassa in the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli owing to a prolonged strike by workers.
