In Kerala, cement dealers under the Kerala Cement Dealers Association, will close down their shops indefinitely from 15 November in the state.The Association State committee officials alleged that cement dealers in the state were being ‘continuously harassed’ and ‘unfairly treated’ by tax officials in the state contrary to the promises made by the government and the Finance Department.The cement dealers, as a precursor to the strike, would stop purchasing and bringing cement to the state from November 1, MV Sakeer Hussain, The Association state general secretary said. The Association has also decided to organise a mass protest convention at VJT Hall in Thiruvananthapuram on November 5, he added.Cement has been included in the notified goods list even when there was no shortage of it causing hardships to the dealers. Double taxes were also being imposed unlawfully on several dealers, contrary to what was promised, Hussain said.
