As cement demand has come down the prices per bag has come down by Rs 7-10 per bag across the country from September 24. However, the cement manufacturers are hopeful that the coming festival season in October will bring in demand and their business will pick up again.Due to delayed monsoon, construction activity is yet to be picked up in the country. Representatives of most of the cement firms are now keeping hopes on the demand pick up during the next Dussera and Diwali season. The festival’s gaiety and pomp among buyers will lead to an improved sentiment to buy homes and properties.Cement Manufacturers Associations (CMA) said that cement prices have fallen by around Rs 35-40 per 50 kg bag during monsoon, he said. Again, after the price cut on September 24, a 50 kg bag of cement in northern India has come down to around Rs 200 per bag while in the western region it is around Rs 270 per bag, said the CMA official.
