KIAPL to set up calcium aluminate cement plant at Vizag

A calcium aluminate cement production unit will be set up at Atchutapuram near Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh by Kerneos India Aluminate (KIAPL) with an investment of Rs 100 crore. Segi P Idicula, Managing Director, KIAPL told a newspaper that this facility would be 100 per cent import substitute.Land for the project has been acquired and the company is awaiting environmental clearance to start construction work. The Rs 100 crore investments will be made in the first phase and will have a capacity to produce 30,000 tonne per annum of the unit. 20 acres have been bought from APIIC. Idicula said the first phase would be completed in 2014. Later the capacity will be doubled as part of expansion.At present, the product used for improving castable refractories is being imported from China, France and United Kingdom. With castables penetrating into steel, ceramic and other sectors, the demand is growing.
