As per the reports, cement prices have started to ease by an average of two per cent. Markets had been witnessing continual increases despite the Competition Commission of India’s cartel ruling back in June. However, the average nationwide price of cement has fallen from Rs 310/50kg bag to Rs 304/bag.Due to heavy downpour and floods in the northeast is said to be the main cause of the dip. According to dealers, in Bihar, prices have dipped from Rs 350 to Rs 310 while in Uttar Pradesh, the prevailing prices are Rs 280 against Rs 320 in July. Northeastern markets have seen a fall of Rs 10-15/bag. In mid-July prices had surged to as high as Rs 315, according to one Mumbai-based brokerage. Some analysts had anticipated cement prices to come under pressure following the CCI’s decision to fine 12 cement producers on cartel practice. However, prices, instead, climbed beyond Rs 300 before fall to an average of Rs 290/bag.
