The Kashmir Valley-based cement manufacturers have been instructed by the district administration not to increase the prices of the commodity unilaterally. The companies were further directed to furnish "cost analysis of rates" to Director Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Department (CAPD). At a joint meeting of officers and representatives of various cement manufacturers held under the chairmanship of Additional Commissioner, Srinagar, Abdul Majid Mir on May 23, the companies including JK Cements were asked to furnish cast analysis of rates to Director CAPD within one week so that decision regarding fixation of rates is taken after consulting the administration.The Additional Commissioner directed the companies not to increase the selling price of cement unilaterally, an official statement said. Mir urged the companies to ensure that the consumers are not charged more than that of MRP printed on the cement bags.The cement manufacturers, on this occasion, assured the government that there would be no increase in rates without consultation of the district administration.
