A cement plant is planned to be built by PT Semen Gresik (SMGR) in Myanmar. The company foresees significant potential for cement demand in the country due to the local industry being in a position to fulfill only half of the national demand. The plan for the plant is in its initial stages and it is expected to have an annual production capacity of 2.5 million tons. Investment for the plant construction is likely to reach USD 150-200 for each ton produced. The company’s finance director Ahyanizzaman said "capacity can be increased according to demand. If there is a surplus production, it can be distributed to eastern Sumatra."
