The Division of Air Quality of the North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) has issued an air quality permit to Titan America LLC, parent company of Carolinas Cement Company for the construction of a cement plant in Castle Hayne. The permit has been issued following a technical review of the proposed facility for ensuring its compliance with the air quality regulations and standards of North Carolina. DENR issued the permit following the use of air models which incorporate government-approved local meteorological, topographic and site-specific information. Carolinas Cement will proceed with the completion of the federal Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) needed to obtain necessary wetlands permits. After this, a two year process will be commenced by Titan America for designing the new cement plant.
