In a glittering and well attended function in one of Mumbai’s top Hotels, Construction Chemicals Manufacturers Association (CCMA) felicitated Professor Dr. R.K. Dhir and Mr. Willie Kay in September. Professor Dr. Ravindra Kumar Dhir, OBE, is an internationally acknowledged scholar and practitioner in concrete, technology and construction. He is the founding Director of the Concrete Technology Unit (CTU), Department of Civil Engineering, University of Dundee, UK. He is the Director of ‘Applying Concrete Knowledge Ltd.’ and Emeritus Professor of Concrete Technology, University of Dundee, UK. His research interests include cement/concrete technology, durability of concrete, sustainability, reuse/recycling of materials, low carbon technologies and novel construction applications. He was awarded the Order of British Empire for his outstanding services to the cause of Production and Protection of Concrete.Mr. Willie Kay has been involved in the construction chemical industry for over thirty years, specializing in materials technology and the repair of concrete structures. Mr. Kay is presently Director of his own consultancy company, WAK Consultants Pte, providing advice on the use of specialist materials in the construction industry. He is presently on a number of committees and working groups within Singapore for the preparation / revision of Standards and Codes of Practice for concrete repair and waterproofing of structures. He was also instrumental in introducing construction chemicals in India in the eighties.The leading manufacturers of construction chemicals in India came together to form their representative body, Construction Chemicals Manufacturers Association. This relatively new industry association with over 25 members has conducted several programmes such as supporting Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FlCCl) in national seminar on construction chemicals in Mumbai and organizing its own seminars covering topics such as RMC, Green Building concept, flooring and waterproofing.
