Dangote Cement Plc and Lafarge Cement WAPCO Nigeria Plc would construct cement plants with a total grinding capacity of 8.5 million metric tonnes per annum. The two plants to be constructed are Dangote Cement, Ibese, and Lafarge’s Lakatabu plant Agbesi Estate, all in Ogun State, Nigeria. Dangote Cement, Ibese will be grinding 6 million metric tonnes yearly and Lafarge Lakatabu will be producing 2.5 million metric tonnes per annum, together the total production capacity of the two plants add to 8.5 million metric tonnes per annum. Further, a six million metric tonnes capacity ultra modern factory will be complementing the existing Obajana plant of 7 million metric tonnes capacity. This will bring the total capacity of Dangote Cement to more than 16 million metric tonnes annually. For the Lafarge Cement WAPCO, the commissioning of Lakatabu plant in August would contribute 12,000 tonnes of cement on a daily basis to Nigeria. These two plants will not only increase local and export supply and reduce price, but will also employee thousands of people.
