Refratechnik Cement offers FORMAG? 88 forsterite-elastified magnesia brick designed for use in cement rotary kilns. This magnesia forsterite brick grade serves as a safe all rounder in sintering zones of cement rotary kilns. Its density and apparent porosity come up to those of conventional magnesia spinel bricks. Due to a cold crushing strength of 50 Mpa, its increased elasticity leads to an excellent thermal shock resistance of 100 cycles. High melting temperatures of its main components (magnesia 2,800?C, forsterite 1,890?C) result in good refractory values of >1,700?C. Due to the specific thermal conductivity of forsterite, FORMAG? 88’s thermal conductivity is lower than those of conventional magnesia spinel bricks. The medium iron oxide content of 2 per cent provides a good coatability. FORMAG? 88 is thermochemically insensible and highly resistant to alkali salt condensates. Due to this, FORMAG? 88 is suitable for chrome ore-free applications in burning zones.
