Shree Cement is among three Indian companies (Suzlon Energy and Jain Irrigations being the other two) who has made it to the 16 new sustainability champions’ list, compiled by World Economic Forum and The Boston Consulting Group. The report titled ‘redefining the future of growth: The new sustainability champions’ id-en-tified 16 "fast-growing, high-performing companies" from the emerging markets based in terms of their environmental and social initiatives. These are the companies "whose mindset and practices enable them to post strong growth while actively tackling environmental and social challenges," the report said. The report highlighted that innovation of all kinds was burgeoning in emerging markets – the very regions where the pressures of resource depletion will be felt most keenly. Their overall performance of these companies matters because emerging markets in total are set to contribute more than three-quarters of global growth by 2012, and because these markets are likely to feel resource scarcity the most. The report covered more than 1,000 companies from around the world on the basis of their sustainability, innovation, and scalability.
