Cement companies get development recognition awards

Cement companies took two of the four sustainable development recognition awards that the Federation of Philippine Industries gave out in reorganisation for achievement that underscores the cement industry’s dynamic role in this vital area. Holcim Philippines Inc won the award for corporate social responsibility, while Taiheiyo Cement Philippines Inc won in the waste management category. Holcim was recognised as one of the few Philippine companies that have made CSR an integral part of their business development plan. Taiheiyo Cement was cited for going beyond compliance with the rules on effective waste management. Roland Vera Cruz of Cemex and Chairman of CeMAP sustainable development committee, said "since we are globally benchmarked, we don’t just comply with local standards, we even strive to exceed them in order to satisfy our head offices’ expectations". The other two winners were Mariwasa Siam Ceramics Inc for optimum use & recycling of resources and Honda Cars Philippines, health and safety.
