Changing face of technology in construction materials
There is marked uncertainty, change and complexity in operations, and businesses have now shaken up their industries. By introducing innovative products and services and streamlining systems, businesses are braving the creative storm and are pacing themselves for the future.

The need for new-gen refractories
Today every cement plant is focusing on the efficiency of clinker production and reduction in the specific cost of operation. A permanent cost reduction programme is running in every plant to optimise its competitiveness and profitability.

The concept of refractories has evolved over time
Sumanta Mukhopadhyay, General Manager - Technical, Dalmia Refractories Ltd Significant energy saving is possible through judicious choice of refractories, with an aim to reduce shell temperature without compromising on lining quality in the critical areas of the kiln, says Sumanta Mukhopadhyay, General Manager - Technical, Dalmia Refractories Ltd.

Survival of new entrants is challenging
In the last few years, many new corporates have entered the cement arena. Even the entities, which have no synergies with steel or power, are trying to get a foothold in the cement industry. The new entrants include diversified industrials as far apart as oilseeds, fast-moving consumer goods and shipyards.

Cement demand set for a take-off
ACC Limited and Ambuja Cements – the two Indian units of building materials manufacturer LafargeHolcim – have posted their Q3 results. ACC’s Q3 numbers have surprised positively, while Ambuja’s operating results in Q3CY17 were marginally below estimates.
